The locos of class E 71, formerly pr. EG 511-EG 537, were built from 1914 to 1924. the freight train locomotive with axle arrangement BB’ achieved as first E-loco a period of service up to 1958 at Deutsche Bundesbahn. Area of operations of the pr. EG 511-EG 537 was the range Magdeburg-Dessau-Leipzig-Halle and already electricified lines in Silesia.

In 1928 several E 71 were transformed to Basel to effect performance on Wiesen- and Wehratal trains in freight train service. The last loco E 71 28 was rejected in August 1958. at DR (east) the unique remained E 71 30 was restored in the 60th and shown at the museum of transportation at Dresden.
