DRG BR 42
For heavy freight train input designed in addition to the BR 52 and since 1943 built war locomotive. From above twothousand locomotives until the end of war were delivered 877 pieces. Involved in building were all at that time famous producers. In this version it was not kept as simple as the BR 52. For example the deflectors were not abdicated.
DB BR 42
At the Bundesbahn this locomotives of the BR 42 were used until the end of the fifties. Because of rusted through boiler expensive fix up works were accumulated.
DB BR 42 9000 (Franco-Crosti)
In the year 1950 two not completed BR 52 were equiped with feedwater preheater by the Italian company Franco-Crosti. Through resultant the higher axle weight this locomotives were administrated as BR 42 9000 and BR 42 9001 at the Bundesbahn. This respectable power enhancement was bought with cost-intensive wear at the boiler. The rejection occurs already just under 10 years later.
